GYFTY optical cable is constructed by placing 250μm optical fibers into loose tubes made of a high-modulus material, which are filled with a water-blocking compound. At the center of the cable core is a glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) strength member. The loose tubes (and filler rods) are stranded around the central strength member to form a compact, circular cable core, with all gaps within the core filled with water-blocking filler. A polyethylene sheath is extruded over the cable core to complete the cable.
